Quechee Balloon Festival 2015 T-Shirt

Hartford Area Chamber of Commerce (HACC) needed a t-shirt design for the 37th annual Quechee Hot Air Balloon Craft & Music Festival. The design would be featured on three different t-shirt colors; one for staff and two for festival-goers.

Challenges
A tight timeline and creating a design which appealed to a wide audience —both longstanding festival fans and new/younger attendees— were the two major challenges. Also, we wanted to create a design that would translate on all 3 t-shirt colors without an increase in print cost AND would not create a large solid, stiff layer of ink.

One-Size-Fits-One Design
Collaborating with the HACC Board of Directors, we offered a couple of designs. Settling on an Andy Warhol-inspired design, it utilized the t-shirt color showing through in different places on each to minimize the amount of ink used and, thus, created a more flexible print. Pop art is less traditional than the previous years’ shirts but still appeals to a wide audience. We carried the design style through with a font chosen for its similar feel to Warhol’s signature. We worked with TKSports and HACC to coordinate production in a short time frame and had fun doing it!

Successes
We were present Saturday morning of the festival and received a lot of positive feedback on the shirts, including people wishing they could have the orange version that was printed for festival staff. We hope that HACC will consider a vote-for-a-design campaign via social media and the festival website leading up to the event next year so that we can have even more fun!
